Frank Carollo’s pants size went up and down with every failed weight loss attempt.
But after 10 years, Carollo’s weight only went up. And up.
“Bam! You’re done and the weight comes back on, plus more,” Carollo said.
Nearing 50, Carollo knew he didn’t want to keep dealing with his weight as he got older. So after nearly two years of research, including monitoring successful results of his partner and friends who had bariatric surgery, Carollo had a LAP-BAND® procedure this past January.
Nearly nine months later, he has lost 80 pounds – and plans to lose another 50 pounds. Not only has he lost weight, his eating habits have done a complete flip flop. It wasn’t until nutritional evaluations before his surgery that Carollo finally understood why his past weight loss efforts failed.
“The onus was on me,” Carollo said about the surgery. “I didn’t have a choice. I knew I must be 100 percent committed and there was no going back. I knew this had to work … because it wasn’t just for the moment, but for the rest of my life.”
Now, Carollo completely avoids sugar, breads, pasta and heavy carbs that were his dietary staples in the past.
“This surgery has totally changed how I approach food, what types of food I eat, and why,” said Carollo of Avondale Estates. “I don’t worry about calorie counting, but nutrition. This is life changing.”
