Maternity Wing In-Person Tour
During this tour, Piedmont Hospital staff will walk you through the Maternity Wing and answer any questions you may have. Significant others are encouraged to attend.
Prenatal Class #1: A Time for Change
This part one of a four class series covers important information about changes during your pregnancy as well as changes in your life as you become new parents. Topics include strategies to ease discomfort, sex while pregnant, and fathers and families.
Prenatal Class #2: A Time for Care
This part two of a four class series covers important information during your first months of pregnancy. Topics include risks to avoid, foods that grow a healthy baby, and planning for a baby.
Prenatal Class #3: A Time for Birth
This part three of a four class series covers important information during your last months of pregnancy. Topics include the signs of labor, epidurals and alternatives, and the delivery (vaginal or cesarean birth).
Prenatal Class #4: A Time for Baby
This part four of a four class series covers important information during your last months of pregnancy. Topics include the healthy baby, decisions to make, and caring for your baby.
Childbirth Classes
Although labor and delivery are discussed in the prenatal series, the prepared childbirth classes are concerned primarily with this important final aspect of your pregnancy. You and your birth partner will gain a better understanding of the sequence of events that will occur during labor. You will learn relaxation and breathing techniques, pain relief methods and information about epidural anesthetic. Planned and unplanned cesarean births will be discussed.
The fee is $95.00 per couple.
Breastfeeding School
This three-hour class offers information on physiology and functions of the breast, breastfeeding techniques, suggestions for working mothers and considerations for fathers. Fathers are encouraged to attend. Attendance should be before delivery.
The fee is $55.00 per couple.
Grandparenting Class
This class for grandparents-to-be covers the major changes in maternity care in the last several years, newborn care, and information on feeding with emphasis on family support.
Sibling Class – “Our New Baby”
Big brothers and sisters prepare for the new baby’s arrival in this class and tour. Designed for children ages three and above, parents and children attend together. Attendance is encouraged near delivery due date.
Mother Talk
This class provides support and information for new mothers. Mothers share their concerns and ideas with each other about young babies. Bring your baby through six months of age.
Parent Talk
This class provides support and information on parenting. Mom, dad and children seven months to two years of age are welcome. Group discussions focus on childcare, discipline, safety precautions, effects on parents’ relationship and much more.
