Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) is another method of highly targeted therapy. It allows the intensity and shape of the radiation beams to be modified during treatment so that physicians can escalate the radiation dose to cancer cells. Higher doses are delivered more precisely to the tumor and cancerous cells, and lower doses are delivered to healthy, normal tissue. The result is fewer complications and side effects.
