A History of Service and Education: The Nicholas E. Davies Community Health Information Center

Nicholas DaviesAt Piedmont Hospital, we are dedicated to the health and wellness of you and your family. We recognize your need for reliable health information to help learn about your disease or condition. That's why in 1974, Mark Silverman, MD—a physician on staff at Piedmont—obtained funding from the Regional Medical Program and the Courts Foundation to start a patient education library. This library serves the needs of Piedmont patients and their family.

On March 28, 1977, the Piedmont Hospital Patient Education Library officially opened in the Sauls Memorial Library. The patient education library was renamed in 1991 to honor Nicholas Davies, MD, a physician at Piedmont Hospital. Using funds donated in his memory, the Nicholas E. Davies Community Health Information Center was specifically designed for patients and the public to research health information.

The late George Beattie, a noted local artist and patient of Nicholas Davies, donated a portrait of Dr. Davies, which now hangs in the library.
