Cancer Services

Meeting All Your Cancer Needs

Piedmont Hospital's cancer services span the entire spectrum of care—from detection, diagnosis and research to treatment, education and support. We take a unique interdisciplinary approach that addresses the whole patient—medically, emotionally and socially. Combined with Piedmont's long-standing reputation for medical excellence, the result is peerless care backed by experience, innovation and a passion for what we do.

Our interdisciplinary approach to care involves a team of cancer specialists—including board-certified oncologists, a dedicated oncology nursing unit, surgeons, accredited technicians and nutritionists—who collaborate to create a personal treatment plan based on each patient's unique situation. Patients benefit from a full complement of support and services, including the newest diagnostic testing, groundbreaking therapies and surgeries, proven medical and radiation oncology and effective pain management.

We understand that cancer is more than just a medical challenge, and that it affects the patient's loved ones, as well. Our chaplains, social workers and volunteers work to help family members cope with this life-changing, often overwhelming process.

Since its inception in 1975, Piedmont's Cancer Services has become one of the premier programs in the Southeast. Along the way we've helped countless patients and their families cope with and conquer the myriad medical, psychological and social challenges involved with cancer. Here are some highlights:

  • We were the fourth hospital in the U.S. and first in Georgia to offer Gamma Knife™ radiosurgery (intracranial surgery). Gamma Knife was installed in 1979.
  • In 2002, we were the first community hospital in Georgia to offer Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), a groundbreaking treatment that delivers high radiation doses to targeted areas.
  • In 2004, we were the first community hospital in Georgia and fourth in the country to install the Trilogy™ Accelerator System for image guided radiation therapy (IGRT) and stereotactic radiosurgery.
  • We've earned ongoing approval from the American College of Surgeons and established a record of excellence for other healthcare organizations to emulate.

We have the life-saving facts you need to know.
